The literary tradition in Pernambuco took great shape, from 1852, with the creation of the Provincial Public Library, through Law nº 293, obliging the typographies to send a copy of all the published publications. Its first regulation was approved and published in 1874. The Pernambuco State Public Library (BPE) is one of the richest in rare editions in Brazil, constituting an important patrimony by its vast collection that includes works of colonial times and the empire, of the Dutch period in the state, about history, economics and other classes.
