Republica Square

Located at the same spot where Mauricio de Nassau, governor during Dutch invasion and hired by India Oriental Company, lifted Palace of Friburgo, in 1642 – also knows as Towers palace – and the first zoobotanic garden in Brazil. The palace was demolished in 1769. Place of several historical facts related to conflicts in Republican favour. It got projects of gardening by Èmile Berenger, in 1875 and, in 1936, got attention from Burle Marx. The Republica Square keeps a baobab, sacred tree in african continente. According to the legend, Saint Exupéry had gotten inspiration from this tree for one of the chapters of his book The Little Prince.
