Santa Isabel Theater

It was built up during Boa Vista Count’s government, whom promoted french style all around Recife. It was projected and built by french engineer Louis Léger Vauthier, but it was concluded by pernambucano engineer José Mamede Alves Ferreira, in 1850. In neoclassic style, the theater, nowadays, is one of the 14 theater-monument in Brazil, being recognized as artistic and historical national heritage. Santa Isabel theater is an important page in political, cultural, social and history of Pernambuco. It was scenery for characters such as Castro Alves and Joaquim Nabuco acting in favor of abolitionist campaigns
