In the West Zone the great highlight is the district of Várzea with its museums and the look of countryside city. The neighborhood has a large forest reserve, single-family houses, mill houses, historic churches, tree-lined squares, the campus of the Federal University of Pernambuco and two important museums: the Francisco Brennand Ceramics Workshop and the Ricardo Brennand Institute. The first is the workshop of the artist Francisco Brennand, who impresses in his art fantastic beings and his own mythology among gardens, sheds and woods. The other is a castle with a huge collection of white guns, paintings, sculptures and tapestries. Set a day to visit the two of them, spending the morning or the afternoon in each. In the surroundings you can check out the movement of the neighborhood, the university or even try a round of golf at Caxangá Golf Club. In the Cordeiro Neighborhood, the Sala de Reboco dance place, offers the best Forró Pé de Serra, typical northeast music and dance. In Madalena, it is worth to visit the Abolition Museum, which operates in a townhouse that once was the great house of a mill and the Madalena Market, famous for its bars that run throughout the night, feeding those who leave the evening and need before returning home. Close to the Market there is the International Club, which promotes lively shows, Benfica Street with its elegant mansions and palaces from the imperial period and the Sport Club do Recife stadium.
