The old terminal square (it was the final point of several buses) is one of the places directed to the recife population and the tourists, thanks to its location: the boa viagem neighborhood (near the hotels and boa vigem beach). The square is one of the main points of sale of handicrafts sale of the city. There are approximately 200 stalls with works in ceramics, in lace and embroidery and in wood that make reference to the local culture; it is also possible to find t-shirts, hammocks and other types of souvenirs from the city, state and country. In the middle of the square there is the church of nossa senhora de boa viagem, open during mass times, which was built in 1707 and an obelisk (landmark of the pavement inauguration of boa viagem av. In 1926) in granite, behind the shield of the city of recife with four important dates: 1654 – victory over the dutch; 1710 – recife elevated to vila category; 1817 – pernambuco revolution; and, 1824 – confederation of ecuador. On wednesdays, the square is the meeting point of the local culture. Punctually at 7:00 pm the “recife mais cultura” project performs a cultural presentation in a show-class format.
